Guitar Learning Software

By Admin | Aug 15, 2008

Learning to play the guitar is difficult. It takes time effort and instruction - and the instruction part can be quite expensive. Learning to play the guitar using software is much cheaper, it allows you to progress at your own pace and in your own home.

We looked at a number of software programs and we reviewed the top three below. The top three all had the following features: video lessons, a chord dictionary and a computerized guitar tuner. From all of them you can learn to read tablature, use cords and hand positions. Their practice tools all included a metronome, animated fretboard and record playback functions.

They also all had a manual and supported users by phone and email.

Other ways to learn how to play the guitar

Formal Classes: Now this is the best way to learn, better even than from software. The problem is the cost, around 17 £/h and the schedule. You have to pay whether you make it or not.

Books: Generally books are a good way to learn to do new things. The first problem people, that are trying to learn to play the guitar, run into is tuning. You need to be able to tune your guitar before you can play anything. Basically you need to be able to hear a note, play it on the guitar and then adjust it, until it is the same note as the one you hear. If you have access to a piano that’s fine, if not you will need a tuning fork and those are a pain.

To get the most from books you need to be able to read music. So it’s probably best to buy a book about that first. Then buy one about guitars.

DVD: DVDs are much better than books, not only because you can hear the instructor play the guitar, but also because you can see what he is doing with his hands, at any given time.
